MAST Mayflower Studios is a multi-artform Cultural Hub, building and supporting a sustainable and vibrant artistic community in Southampton, Hampshire and our region. We believe that offering opportunities for artists to present, create, develop and connect is vital to develop an ecology that will help culture thrive in the region.

At this time, we are looking to connect and engage with artists for Small Scale Big Ideas and our 48 Hour Artist Challenge which will make up our Festival of Loveliness.

About MAST Mayflower Studios

MAST Mayflower Studios is a multi-art form cultural hub presenting and producing theatre, dance, musicals,
music, comedy, circus, cabaret, spoken word, visual arts and family shows.

We are community-led, with engagement and consultation at the heart of everything we do.

We work with the best touring companies and local artists to present a diverse, vibrant, high-quality artistic
programme, alongside our own MAST productions and co-productions.

Our Community and outreach programme - Engage - works throughout the community giving opportunities
to take part and developing both future audiences and future theatre makers. This work leads into our Artist
Development programme.

Our Creative hub currently has 7 resident companies from different art forms whom we work with closely to
create exceptional cultural opportunities for the region.

Small Scale Big Ideas

Small Scale Big Ideas is MAST’s regular festival celebrating performance work made for the small scale. We bring together local talent with the best touring shows to provide audiences with brilliant arts experiences of all kinds.

In October 2021 we will be celebrating Small Scale Big Ideas under the banner of Festival of Loveliness. The theme for the festival is kindness, healing, generosity and hope. We’re interested in all kinds of interpretations of the theme, and all kinds of art.

Festival of Loveliness

Festival of Loveliness will take place between 1-10 October 2021. Activity will be programmed in the following spaces at MAST Mayflower Studios:

Please look at the technical specifications and decide which space your project is best suited to.

We are interested in programming:

  • Workshops or participatory activity for adults or families.
Please include details of the cost of this activity.
  • Shows (theatre, comedy, dance, circus, music – we’re interested in anything so long as you think it would work within the technical specifications of the relevant space and the themes of the festival).
We usually programme shows on the basis of a shared risk (usually a 50/50 Box Office split). If this would make it difficult for you to bring your work to MAST, we would welcome a conversation about this.
  • Works-in-Progress (theatre, comedy, dance, circus, music – we’re interested in anything so long as you think it would work within the technical specifications of the relevant space). Tickets will be low-cost and we programme on the basis of a shared risk (a 50/50 Box Office split).
  • Café/Bar Performances
We usually pay up to £100 for ambient performance artists.
