Extraordinary Bodies' Human - Rehearsals Are Now Underway!
‘Human’ - a story about the small moments that shape us.
Human will arrive at MAST Mayflower Studios and perform for 2 days only on 10 & 11 September, this is truly one extraordinary show you do not want to miss.
This new live show by Extraordinary Bodies is a poetic record of our time, based on real life stories from our company and performers, and told through circus, music and film.
Intimate, funny and celebratory, ‘Human’ looks into the heart of birth, love and change.
It reminds us that as humans, we have the extraordinary ability to move forward together by taking the time to really understand each other.
At a time when the world’s been cracked open, we invite you to spend an hour with us, imagining how we can make sure no one is left behind.
On a simple stage with a trapeze, circus rope and set of drums, four performers tell us stories from their lives: memories of the past 18 months and childhood memories too. They look at times of uncertainty when they had to make big decisions. Should I fall in love with that person? Should I have children? Should I leave the house? They remember decisions their parents made for them: having a life-changing operation, letting them train as a circus performer, teaching them to stand up for what is right.
The show features live original music, soulful drumming, rope and trapeze performance, dance, film made with communities across England and footage from the performers’ actual lives. The audio is played through headphones, creating an intimate relationship between performer and audience. Audio description is available and the show is BSL-interpreted by a well known Deaf actor.
Extraordinary Bodies have said 'We made Human as a company throughout the lockdowns. We shared stories via voice messages and video about what it means to be human: to exist in deep uncertainty and leap without knowing where we will land. We also talked a lot about our favourite childhood sweets and whether we shared them or not. We let you know our findings in the show.
We hope to capture the audience’s own memories at the start and end of the show. They will be encouraged to continue the conversation with us across social media afterwards.'
Rehearsals are now underway and we are very excited to present this wonderfully creative show in Southampton for all to see. Rehearsal images are now available to view across our social media.
‘Human’ is BSL interpreted and audio described, and all performances are relaxed.
Extraordinary Bodies is the collaboration between Diverse City and Cirque Bijou. Funded by Arts Council England, Esmée Fairbairn and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
